we spent a wonderful afternoon at aunt becky's in gig harbor. when jeff put garlic chicken and flank steak on the grill, well, i could have kissed him. i hate ham almost as much as i hate turkey. and aunt becky remembered. she must really love me. we weren't the only guests at her home. i would have eaten the ham. i would have sacrificed for the team and gagged it down. but no. i didn't have to. i didn't have to pretend to like it, secretly cringing. washing it down with whatever beverage i could get my hands on. not today, people.
aunt b also had a great easter egg hunt planned for the kids. i have to take a moment here and talk about how nice it is for the kids to be spoiled. aunt b has three grown children. one married. two single. no grandchildren. and so, my kids are treated like royalty. oh, you don't like apple cider? that's okay, because i have apple juice. you don't like the crust on your bread? here, i'll take it off for you. you want chocolate syrup with your ice cream instead of bunny cake or fresh strawberries on costco pound cake? that's fine. help yourself. you don't like potatoes? let me make some green beans. i mean, COME ON. who doesn't like to be coddled? they hid eggs filled with goodies and four foil wrapped eggs, each with a silver dollar inside. they stood outside in the drizzle and hinted at the location of eggs. someone cleaned off the ping pong table and jeffrey courteously played with cw until all of the balls were lost. and the best part? when we left, they appeared to be sad to see us go. even with all the crazy we bring. and we know how to bring the crazy. so aunt b, if you're out there, thank you. for loving me enough to scratch ham from the menu. for spoiling the kids in royal fashion. for making us feel at home. we love you and your family, too.

look at gw. he's such a big kid. and he's deliciously soft and wonderful.
