may 4.
gw seemed to be the only one who struggled a little with the time change. he was up every morning between five thrity and six thirty. he and mw went on morning walks and took advantage of the deserted grounds. we tried out the beach thirty yards down from our resort. it was nice and quiet but the kids wanted waves. so after a not-so-quick detour to lahaina for some shave ice, we went to find them.
we stopped at this tree in lahaina. i think it said it was the size of three city blocks. the root system is above ground and parts of the tree have to be held up. there are signs everywhere advising against swinging and climbing. so of course that's just what the boys did. cw also ate the biggest shave ice i had ever seen.
we then hit kaanapali beach. and i have to say, it was my most favorite spot. the waves were big, relatively speaking, but the undertow wasn't. the kids could body board and i didn't have to stress that they would be carried out to sea. there was also great snorkeling. mw and the kids went out to blackrock and were gone most of the afternoon on snorkeling adventures. gw and i built a lot of sandcastles. we also got smart and bought the boys surf shirts. their stomachs were rubbed raw by the boards.
that first day at kaanapali was heaven. the sun was hot. there was a great breeze off the water. the kids were so incredibly good. aaaah, vacation.

Great hearing mw yesterday on Ruddell for mom's day. You got yourself a sweet family sister!
Whenever I see your kids I'm reminded of my own 3 brothers.
My body is half hotdog from eating so many at the ball parks growing up.
Love, love the pictures! Keep them coming. so glad you guys had such a great time. Wonderful memories - and tan bodies!
