changing time zones.

after much preparation and many weeks of the daily countdown, we finally left on our trip to maui. i hadn't been since 1998. gloriously, it is still much the same. and by "the same," i mean sunny and paradisiacal. the kids were great on the flight and mw even managed a two hour nap. i wasn't quite so lucky. then again, when you sleep in what your husband refers to as the "coffin position," sitting upright on a smelly plane isn't your ideal sleeping configuration. we made a quick stop at costco for some essentials and body boards and made the forty minute drive to kaanapali. we actually stayed just north of kaanapali beach at a resort called papakea. we had a two bedroom oceanfront with a wrap around balcony. the waves came in against the seawall for much of the day and ever tired of hearing the waves crash against it. it was windy and cw was concerned that the palm trees between us and the beach might be torn from the ground. after the second day, seeing that the trees were still firmly rooted, he abandoned this ridiculous theory. i must admit, the first day was a little overcast and misty and i was less than pleased. but per mw's instructions to keep all negative opinions to myself, i held it all in. i was rewarded the next day.
