father's day and end of the year stuff.

with the end of the school year came the field trips. and field day. and end of year parties. and pta wrap up. the weekend before that there was father's day. and soccer started for aw and bw. cw's started the weekend before that. cw's class went to the hands on children's museum (lame for anyone over three) and aw's class went to the zoo in tacoma (lame when compared with the indy zoo... the animals looked like they were seconds away from attacking the zookeepers, harboring hopes that they would be put down and and out of their misery). mw wanted a new grill for the new house. and because he didn't go pick one out, he was out of luck and presentless on father's day. but i honestly don't think he even cared. we made his favorite treats and ate red meat. not much to complain about. the kids finished out the school year in good spirits. the weather hasn't turned warm yet so they're not complaining too much. at the awards assembly cw was chosen as one of three second graders to receive the language arts award for writing. aw was one of three first graders to receive the reading award. if you remember by paranoia at the beginning of the school year (me: mrs. d, is she ever going to learn to read? what more can i be doing? mrs d: you need to relax. she'll find her groove. it doesn't click at the same time for every kid.), you will understand what a huge accomplishment this is. the kids got mostly fours on the report cards and we decided to celebrate on a gloriously hot day at norma's. delicious burgers, baskets of fries, cold soda, and chocolate peanut butter milkshakes. again, hard to beat.
