family or money?
funny story. there is one man, in particular, that matt identifies as his "dental inspiration." this man, let's call him bill, is also a dentist. he was matt's dentist. when matt was thinking of applying to medical school, bill advised him to consider dental school as well. he cited the family friendly hours of a dentist, the abbreviated graduate school attendance, and of course, the money, as the main benefits. matt took his advice and here we are today. as we stood talking with bill and his wife, let's call her jill, at church today, he recounted a funny story. he began by saying that his mother-in-law was the sweetest, kindest woman he knew. and that she lived in utah. he then told us that when he and jill moved to western washington to practice dentistry his mother-in-law informed him that family, and living close to family, were more important than money. bill put his arm around her shoulders and replied tenderly, "(name of mother-in-law), money will always be more important to me than family." naturally, we cracked up, having had similar things said to us about our move to the pacific northwest. and it's true. kind of.
