we had the best week! weed and morgan got here late last sunday night to visit and see the kids. on monday we had the infamous "family picture." white shirts and jeans - the pictures look like they're straight out of a gap ad. we had not had a family picture taken in 2 1/2 years, so this was the first one with sawyer, beckett, and morgan. cooper was 3 months old the last time matt and i had a wall family picture taken. (we have a "no-picture policy" during the winter months. we tried it once and both about gagged when we saw how pale we looked. as for why we have never had one taken in the summer months... it could be due to the fact i have been pregnant every other summer since 2002. the even years find me gwc and the odd years i take a break. i am already afraid for what next summer may hold). after pictures the girls stayed and shopped and the boys went home with the kids. i am so lucky to have a highly functional and involved husband. we went to the childrens' museum on tuesday and had a great time. my mom and sisters hadn't been there in over 15 years. ironically, they still had some of the same exhibits. the rest of the week kind of passed in a blur, preschool, the last days of the pool, a really fun baby shower for a friend, and another fancy dinner at the columbia club to celebrate the achievements of a woman i had never met and matt wished he hadn't met. weed and mor watched the kids friday night while we went to the dinner. and i honestly believe that they had a better friday night watching three kids in a small apartment than i did at the dinner. the first 45 minutes were "cocktail hour." apparently if you do not drink alcohol you only deserve water. while everyone else imbibed, matt and i quietly sipped our water and pondered the interesting, if not questionable, hor d'ouerves(sp). we were able to positively identify artichoke hearts, sauteed mushrooms, shrimp salad, anchovies, seaweed rolls, and cold sausage. we are still wondering about the other ten items. i wanted matt to order me a diet coke at the bar, but apparently you can only get a rum and diet coke. he refused to ask for a rum and coke, hold the rum. saturday we went to my cousin's wedding, which was really nice. we stayed just long enough at the reception for ainsley to dance once and have a piece of cake. sunday night and all day monday we had weed and morgan to ourselves. we had breakfast at qdoba and spent the day at the zoo. i realized today how much i take for granted. we can go to the zoo whenever we want, for an hour or three or 20 minutes. morgan, who rarely goes to the zoo, was more like a kid than my kids were. we saw every single animal at the zoo, some twice. and my kids we actually excited to be at the zoo again. morgan's excitement was almost tangible. okay, he wasn't that excited but it sounded funnier that way. when we left to take them to the airport earlier this evening coop offered to stay home by himself and wait. on the way there he told us that he didn't like the airport because people always left when we took them there. when we told him that they would come back he said, "we took gpa gary to the airport and he didn't come back." smart kid. he cried quietly the whole way home. he told me that he would feel better if we moved to a hotel to live forever and ever. and that was how we ended the best week ever!
