when you have one daughter and three sons you do things normal mothers don't do. like throw a birthday party for an american girl doll. mw reluctantly participated. aw told us last week that molly's bday was coming up. the next day i asked her about it again and she said, "yeah, she's five today." holy crap. i gotta move fast. so i threw together a pink confetti cake with pink icing, scrawled molly's name across the top in reddish pink icing, made a pint-size bday hat, and set a place at the table for molly. i hung a "happy bday" banner and wrapped a few presents that i picked up at the last minute. after dinner, we celebrated. luckily, molly ate her entire dinner of plastic pepperoni pizza, french fries, and corn on the cob. i would have hated to have stiffed her on the cake. no need. we turned out the lights, threw a candle in the cake, and entered the dining room singing "happy bday to molly." aw's smile was ten miles wide. after she blew out the candles we ate cake and opened presents. cw got a book about the 50 states. aw got some new flowered treat plates. bw got incredibles socks. and dear, sweet, clueless molly got a brand new pair of jams. the lengths i go to to make this (ains) girl happy. we finished the evening of festivities and fun with a sad rendition of "it's my party (and i'll cry if i want to)". at which point we all stood on our chairs and shook our booties to the da-da da-da da part.
