pretty in pink. ballet shoes, that is.

ains started dance last week. it is a combination tap and ballet class. the dance instructor is beautiful and graceful and wonderful. two weeks ago i opened the phone book to the dance section and chose a studio based entirely on the aesthetic appeal of the ad and the name. i thought it sounded kind of snooty and refined. it turns out i was correct. only it's the parents of the other dancers who are snooty and the instructors who are refined. two former dancers for the pbc started a small academy in the neighboring town two years ago and it has just exploded. they are very into detail and form. the girls wear leotards, tights, and slippers based on their age groups. ainsley's age group wears pink. oh, the wonder of it all. all of the tiny dancers wear the same ballet slippers and tap shoes. and they look undeniably adorable holding onto the bar, lifting their crooked little legs to the sky, one arm held above their heads. and miss mc? she looks perfect. all straight lines and pointy toes. i love it. i could never have been a dancer. too big. too tall. but ains? she looks perfect in pink. learning the positions, frolicking over blue, bubble wrap cut into the shape of a lake, and skipping. they skip everywhere. to classical music. i love it.
