ready to go
the kids had their first day of preschool yesterday at the Y. they are both going three days a week this year and they both have new teachers. the teacher situation was kind of a sore subject for ainsley, who spent most of the last two years securely wrapping the early preschool teachers around her skinny, little finger. so now she has to start at square one. i am not in the least bit worried. she has mad skills when it comes to manipulation. apparently she never once walked to her p.e. class last year. she convinced one of the teachers to carry her there and back and to stop each day at coop's classroom so she could say hi. so... we started the day obscenely early, 7:30am, and got bathed and dressed and fed and backpacked and out the door on time. coop and pain were very excited and becks and i were excited to have some hangout time. he's ten months old and never had any alone time with me or matt. poor kid. he'll probably be the only normal one. becks and i came home and i tried to do pilates while he tried to use me as a jungle gym. this was apparently the funniest thing he'd ever done. he giggled the cooper-fat-kid giggle. when we picked the kids up they couldn't wait to tell us all about what they had done and who they saw. the Y has become such a cool, comfortable place for us. everyone is familiar, we've either had kids in class together or been at the pool all summer or played soccer, football, baseball, etc. the kids all know each other and it has been great to meet other young girls with families who have nothing better to do with their time than hang out at the pool all day, every day.
in five days weed and morgan will be here and life will be as it should be for about 1 week. weed convinced mom to change the color assignments for our family picture and so we will now look like a normal family. she was afraid that we would look like the easter bunny (mom in white) and a bunch of pastel-colored eggs (slopsemas in pink, walls in blue, hawleys in yellow). she has also requested that we go to the zoo. i have the only children in the world who whine when we say we're going to the zoo. coop thinks that the bears stink and ainsley wants to be carried the entire time. not to mention the fact that whenever we go we happen upon animals doing what animals do- the seals, and they are LOUD; the turtles; the monkeys with the weird red bums. how do you explain it to a 3 year old and a 4 year old without opening a very scary can of worms?
at the age of three our dear, sweet ainsley weighs one pound less than coop weighed on his first birthday. 28 pounds, 36 inches. she had her three year well check up this week. the dr. also checked becks because his face had broken out really bad. his eczema got so dry that it cracked and became infected. so he's on hardcore oral and topical antibiotics for a while until it clears up. he has gained 1.5 pounds since his well appt. three weeks ago. he finally weaned himself and we decided to bypass the formula and go straight to the vitamin d. he is adjusting just fine. he may just catch up to coop.
matt is busy but always makes time for the kids and a jog. it's so nice to have a husband that's motivated on his own to take care of himself. my 20 minutes of pilates pales in comparison to his 4o minute runs, but i am trying. matt will always be matt and unfortunately i think we will always be that couple people look at and wonder how someone so fit (matt) could be with someone so not fit (me). my glory days have definitely passed me by. last week at friday night softball i wore a t-shirt and shorts and matt told me that i was a real catch. he said that the lesbians at the park would love me because i already had kids. he's a comic genius. next week i'm going to wear an over sized polo and cargo shorts and a visor. he'll miss me when i'm gone. i'm sorry. this whole paragraph is inappropriate. and grody. to say that i am ready for fall would be an understatement. 95 degrees plus humidity. the only comfort i take in the weather is that it makes matt more miserable than it makes me. he ran the other day and then showered and sweat for an hour after he got out of the shower. hee hee.
