cw, meet the floor. floor, this is cw.

this was the boy before school. and this is what he looked like later that day.

i headed to the outlets this morning, a little hesitantly, but excited nonetheless. i thought in my head, "what if he gets sick at school and he has to go to the nurse and she calls me and i need to pick him up and i'm forty minutes away?" and then i dismissed the idea when the gap started calling my name. we made it to a couple of stores and then duh, duh, duh, the phone rang. i didn't recognize the number and generally i would have just muted it, but i bucked the norm and answered. and the nurse introduced herself and explained in a very elementary-school-nurse voice that the kid had fallen in gym class and smashed his lipless face on the floor. she assured me that she was icing it and that it was swelling at a slightly alarming rate. i assured her that his dad was a dentist and that we had experienced our share of mouth-related trauma. rarely a day goes by that someone does not bloody their mouth at our house. so he got on the phone and told me he felt okay. he asked for his dad and i told him i was on my way. i told the nurse that i would hurry as fast as i could to get there and then called the dr. his assistant, who i cannot thank enough, called the school and spoke with the nurse and really got a feel for how bad the injury was. she then called me and told me to get the boy and bring him straight to the school where they would be waiting to check him out. a wonderful canuck watched aw and bw and i headed to the school with "the lip." it looked worse than i imagined in my head and he wouldn't even let me look at it. he ate aw's remaining five nuggets in the car and when we got there they got him a chair right away. when the dr. and his friends finally got a look at it they determined that he needed a few stitches. it was really a cool moment for me as the dentist's wife. his five years of training finally came to fruition in my mind. he was able to help, really help, our son. a pedo friend took great care of cw and at least five or six drs. came by to check him out. i was a little nervous about the injections and requested the "quiet room" over in the pedo department. but it turns out that it wasn't necessary. he was a total trooper. fifteen minutes later he was done. they trimmed the skin that hung after the stitches were placed and he talked the dr.'s ear off. the entire time. he decided to stay with dad, who was still seeing patients, and hang out with the assistants. when i left he was sitting in a tall chair, trying not to laugh at the assistant flirting with him. he asked for pizza and breadsticks for dinner and had already chewed one of the stitches out by the time he got home. he looks like he just got dropped in the ring. but apparently he got his foot caught on something on the floor in the gym. it sounds a little suspicious but he's not really one for details so it will have to suffice. he did inform me that he was still on the green (good behavior) light in class when he got hurt. so we're still at 100%. thank heavens.

Its funny you mentioned the Dr on your comment because I told Dave we should call and get his advice on teeth brushing and bottle weaning...I think I have decided against it...with the baby coming Dave made a good point we want Addie to be as comfy as possible...Tell Coop he is a champ, I am impressed by the injury!!!!
