our weekend in bend.

we left early friday afternoon for a long weekend of sledding in bend, oregon. six hours, hundreds of ounces of dmd, and an icy, two lane highway later, we pulled up to this:

mw and i claimed this room for our own. it was the second smallest bedroom in the house.
our favorite washington friends invited us along for the weekend. we did a bit of cooking in the gourmet kitchen. it was quite fantastic.
cw was in heaven. he had his own bedroom, complete with walk-in shower, heated floors, and an xbox.
aw and her julia were inseparable. they shared a huge bedroom upstairs with a balcony and two plush queen size beds.
we did a lot of this. snow outside, warm and cozy inside. it was a weekend made for snuggling.
mw and i had too much fun. we haven't stayed up late, eating cookies, and talking with good friends for a long, long time.
this group of three spent more time on the table watching cartoons than they did on the couch.
we found gw and his buddy, jordan, lounging in the master bedroom, watching a mickey christmas movie.
we got all dressed up to go sledding. it snowed friday night and most of saturday morning. on the way to the sledding hill we passed two cars spun out on the side of the road and a horrible wreck. we talked to a policeman who encouraged us to turn around and go home. the kids were disappointed but we made the best of a bad situation.
unintentionally, i wore an oregon tshirt saturday. the civil war game was that afternoon. i fielded a few questions about the score. i was totally clueless, as we didn't have cable at the villa.
these two guys would have stayed out all day. but thoughts of hot cocoa and a dip in the hot tub were too inviting.
these girls kept up with the boys. and they looked a lot cuter, too.
i'm glad mw's in better shape than i am. it was a workout dragging the kids around on the sleds.
i haven't taken a picture like this forever. it was that kind of weekend. i think we all felt like kids.
i took a turn down the hill.
cw was insatiable. as soon as he hit the bottom of the hill he was up and running to the top again.

mw had as much fun as the kids. he is so good to play and be a part of things.
cw climbed up a rock wall and mw pelted him with snowballs. he eventually fell off the other side.
poor gw. he napped while we played. he misses all the fun stuff.
we woke sunday morning to find fresh snow covering the ground and still falling. we packed and were out in the door within the hour. aw was not happy to be leaving. but with a mountain pass to cross and a six hour drive ahead of us, we decided to get a head start.

i wish we could have driven 55 mph. we cruised at 30 mph for over an hour.
the drive, though slow, was beautiful. we listened to christmas music and enjoyed a pretty uneventful drive home.
we had a fantastic weekend, in a gorgeous home, with good friends, good food, and beautiful weather. it could not have been better.
